Ren and Ruby on Romance

Ruby‘s thoughts:
"I want to see his face light up when he sees me. Watch a small frown develop when I wrestle him for the remote and when he talks, his voice resonates with just the right timbre — Not too deep, Not too shrill, but perfect enough to cut through distance, through space, and through time just to get to me."

Ren‘s thoughts:
"He yearns for physical intimacy.
He craves for an emotional connection.
He indulges in the romanticism of our fantasies.
He gets turned on by the intensity of our love .
We take dips in the pool of reality, and realize that despite the ups and downs of our existence together, we are still… larger than life."

*REN speaks:
The way I see it, Ruby is obviously the more vivacious one, always bursting with energy, but she remains real, simple, and straightforward.

While I am the calmer of the two, slightly jaded I might add… I still harbor hopes on finding a tiny fairytale amidst a stable and practical commitment.

I think it’s really the same things that we want.
It’s the same things ALL girls want.
A Romantic Reality.

Diamonds Are Forvever...

REN speaks:

For the past few weeks, while Ruby was working ridiculous hours, I was busy celebrating my birthday… 2 weeks early.

*Couple of weeks ago:

RUBY:
So puki, what do you want for your birthday?

REN:
Well, that’s really YOUR problem isn’t it? Don’t expect me to say “it’s ok.. You don‘t have to...” because you do! I BETTER get a present! Hahahaha!

RUBY:
Cheebai!

*Last night: the eve of my birthday.
I didn’t know what Ruby had planned so I went with the flow. We met at Orchard MRT at 630pm:

RUBY:
Alright, let’s take the train.

REN:
SO! Which pub are we going to?

RUBY:
We are NOT going to a pub.

REN:
WHHHHHAT??????

RUBY:
We are NOT drinking. You have me for company!! Deal with it!

REN:
PUKI! I had more than a week of celebratory drinks and the best gifts ever.. And NOW you’re telling me we‘re not drinking? FUCK YOU!

RUBY:
Shut up your face. Choose a sandwich.

REN:
huh?

RUBY:
You have a choice. Soup or sandwich…

REN:
Fuck, we REALLY aren’t going to drink.
Ok.. Mushroom soup.

(She got our soups and walked me to Esplanade Park. She was carrying her laptop, a paper bag (which i realized was carrying cakes for later) and the soups. I feebly offered to help her..)

RUBY:
It’s ok.. It’s your birthday.. You don’t have to lift a finger.

REN:
That’s true. I was just pretending to help anyway.

RUBY:
CHEEBAI!!! Hahahahaha!!

(Her feet started to hurt. She took off her shoes and walked barefoot.
With tons on her shoulders and shoes in her hands, she was lagging behind.
I turned around.. )

REN:
Oi! Auntie! Hurry up! Don’t think I’m going to help you. It’s ALL about me today. Hurry up woman!

RUBY:
CHEEBAI!!! Hahahahaha!

(We stopped at Esplanade Park.)

REN:
Fuck you.. We’re going for a freakin picnic??

RUBY:
Shut up your face.. you're ruining the moment!
Oh no!!! why of all days.. It looks like it's going to rain!!!

REN:
Hahaha.. You're giving me a bollywood birthday! We can dance in the rain!!!
Woohoo! Where’s the kotek?

RUBY:
Hahahahaha!!!

(Ruby wanted to sit on a ledge to catch the sunset but it was blocked by some construction. We sat on a stone bench and I almost immediately felt a drizzle.)

RUBY:
CHEEBAI! EVERYTHING’S NOT WORKING!!!

REN:
hahahaha!!
Okay…
My soup’s never ending because it keeps getting diluted by the rain..
PUKI!

RUBY:
Hahahahaha!!!

*REN speaks:
I was wondering where the night was going..
We weren’t going to drink, we weren’t going to party, we weren’t going to a restaurant..
I thought to myself…
o…k… it IS a change of pace compared to the week I had.
The rain got heavier... we ran to the Esplanade. It got lighter by the time we got there, so we sat by the Bay and continued with our soups.

THIS is the part I’m having trouble relating.
I consider this moment we shared to be a personal one.
But what i can say is...
she gave me a speech so touching, I was at a loss for words. I STILL think I didn't deserve ANY of the wonderful things she said about me.

She then decided to give new meaning to one of her most valuable and personal possessions. She reached from her pocket and handed me this...

a symbol of Our Sparkling Friendship Forever...

so you can imagine...
It all became hazy for me after that... i was shaking inside.. thinking..
what makes me worthy of such an extraodinary gift?

Whoever said,
"Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend"
is sadly mistaken.

Because Ruby...
YOU, are the REAL gem.
